Geoff Oddie was born and raised in South Africa. At the age of 24 moved to England, where he lived for 8 years before immigration to the USA. He currently lives in California with his wife and daughter. He works as a lead web developer in the Silicon tech industry and in his spare time he pursue his passion for the outdoors and photography.
Growing up in South Africa, Geoff developed a love for nature and the outdoors at a very early age. Most holidays and weekend were spent with his family either hiking in the amazing Drakensberg or in game reserves such as Hluhluwe seeing how many animals he could spot.
Moving to London not only furthered in career in technology but also gave him more opportunities to travel and see new countries. He was able to explore Europe and South East Asia as well as complete two round the world trips, in both directions. It was on these travels that his interest in photography grew as he visited some of the worlds most beautiful natural places as he wanted to capture that beauty to remember it and share it with others.
In 2010, he move to the USA and with the encouragement and support of his wife he continued to grow as a photographer, explorer the many beautiful places the USA has to offer.
Photography has always been a therapy for me. It is something that lifts me up and balances me as a person and something I do for myself regardless of the outcome. It is a motivation to get me up and out to explore and find things and places of beauty more than I would without it.
When I am standing in a particular spot, photography makes me really see the world - the colours, the contrasts, the quality of the light, the shapes and shades of objects. I have to sit and take a deep breath sometime to take it all in as its an emotional experience.
